Puzzle Time!

I've been a lifelong subscriber to Reader's Digest and enjoy the RD Challenge at the back of each one. Some are easier than others but they are always a fun little thing I enjoy so I figured I would share it with you! It's a bit of word fun this month! Below are the instructions:

Each answer contains the consecutive letters US, and can follow the word before it and precede the one after it, to create a pair of familiar two-word phrases. In the example below, the answer BUS gives you SCHOOL BUS and BUS STOP.

Ex. SCHOOL BUS STOP
  1. GOLD _US_ HOUR
  2. STAR _US_ BUNNY
  3. CHRISTMAS _ _ _US ROUND
  4. SHORT _US_ BOX
  5. HAIR _ _US_ FIRE
  6. ELEVATOR _US_ _ HALL
  7. PREGNANT _ _US_ BUTTON
  8. ROSE _US_ WHACKER
  9. GREEN _ _US_ ARREST
  10. FLEA _ _ _ _US TENT
  11. HONEY _US_ _ _ _ GAS
  12. MONKEY _US_ _ _ _ _ CARD

I'll post the answers in a few days!
Have Fun!
